Strolling in Copenhagen
In the heart of the city where it all started.
In order to go back to the origins of the city, we need to imagine a fishing village overlooking the Øresund’s waters and located in such an important position that it was allowed to a flourishing economic growth. Archaeological findings show that activities related to fishing took place in Copenhagen already in 1000. Since its inception, the city was under the king rule, but the situation changes when it was given to Absalon, bishop og Roskilde and archbishop of Lund. In 1167 he ordered to build the very first castle on Slotsholmen. The place where Absalon’s medieval castle stood once houses the Danish monumental political seat today. That is Christiansborg Palace. However, we are still allowed to visit the old ruins, which are hidden below ground. They were found in the early 1900s, when the palace had to be restored because of a major fire. It is from the very underground urban level that we will start to tell you about the history of København, the merchant’s harbour.
You will walk along the old beach. You will listen to stories of fires which have devasted the city over the years. You will enter the Church of Our Lady and discover the cobbled streets and the lovely square in the Latin Quarter. You will savour the city through smells, sounds and visions; looks, gestures and words. You will notice the signs of human actions. All this will contribute to make you have a total image of Copenhagen since the early days until now. Through our storytelling, you will wear the city dress and capture its essence. You will educate your eyes to see its souls, soaked in the past and overwhelmed by continuous transformations.

Elena was an extremely passionate and accommodating guide. I'm so glad that I not only spent time with her exploring Copenhagen, but also grateful for the time that she took to schedule a number of other activities for me to do on my own time while I was in Denmark. There are times that working with a guide can feel very transactional and almost like a necessary evil. But working with Elena was the exact opposite. She truly cares about creating the most unique experience she can for her clients based on their individual interests. During our time together, she was deeply interested in better understanding my perspective of everything we were experiencing together while also sharing her knowledge and unique insight with me, as well. I highly recommend anyone take the time to work with Elena while exploring Copenhagen. The experience will inevitably allow you to develop a perspective of the city you might not otherwise receive during your travels.

- How does this guided tour take place?
The ideal way to carry out this tour is on foot given that we are going to focus on a small area. However, we can arrange it differently upon your explicit request (e.g. bicycle, private car, private minivan).
- Is it cold under Christiansborg Palace, namely when visiting the old ruins?
It is colder underground, therefore, remember to bring someting warm to cover you in case you feel cold.
- Will we enter the Church of Our Lady in any case?
Internal visits to sites of cultural interest are subject to their opening hours and private events. In the case of the Cathedral, for example, we could be denied to enter due to religious services. If we are in such a situation, we will do our best to pass by in another moment. If the itinerary and the time available do not allow it, you will be welcome to return on your own at another time.
- Why does the duration of this visit is 3 or 5,5 gours?
That is because we can freely choose to either end the tour after 3 hours or extend it to the afternoon in order to visit the lovely Rosenborg Castle and the King’s Gardens. In this latter case, there will be time for a short lunch break.
- Do you recommend us to extend the tour and visit Rosenborg Castle with our guide?
Definitely, yes. Rosenborg Castle is a il Castello di Rosenborg is a jewel of Danish architecture inspired by the Dutch Renaissance and dating back to the first half of the seventeenth century. In addition to visiting the royal rooms, richly adorned with furniture and works of art, we will go down to the basement to see the royal collection of weapons, amber and ivory objects, jewelry and much more.
- Is Rosenborg Castle accessible?
Being Rosenborg an old castle, there is no elevator. The stairs allow to go up to the second floor and then go down to the basement.
- What about the lunch break in case we extend the tour to the afternoon?
In this case we have planned to have a break to try a typical Danish street food. It is calles “ristet pølse” (hotdog with roasted sausage). If you prefer that we take care of arranging your lunch at a Danish restaurant so you can try typical food, let us know. We will be happy to satisfy your expectations. Please remember that in this case, the total duration of the tour will be longer and the final price will depend on the type of restaurant you choose.
- How can I know more about the price for this visit?
We kindly ask you to contact us, but before that, you can read about our rates in the section “Terms and Conditions” on our webpage.
