This tour has been created from the wish to show you what we've got to offer beyond Copenhagen. We would like to take you out to let you discover much more. We've come up with the idea of offering you an amazing combination. It's the perfect match for you if you like art, history, hidden gems and nature. Thanks to an exclusive collaboration with Jægerspris Castle and Willumsen Art Museum, we can welcome you in a precious environment. The castle is immersed in a big park mixed with a wood. In this very location the first castle was built in the Middle Ages. Across the centuries big changes have though been made in the building. Today's castle is the result of a reconstruction wished by Frederik V between the first and the second half of 1700. The last king who lived at Jægerspris was Frederik VII together with his wife, the countess Danner. It is their very story that the castle tells us about given that each room is still furnished in the way the couple wanted it back in the 1850s. Furthermore, the countess Danner opened a part of their residence to the public three years after the king's death. In the memorial rooms you will be able to see the splendid stucco ceilings, the reliefs by the Danish well-known artist Bertel Thorvaldsen, the king's studio with the impressive collection of pipes, the large painting by Davide Monies representing the countess Danner in her bride dress, some archeological funds owned by Frederik VII. You will also be amazed by the beautiful silk wallpaper dating back to 1600 and you will see a photo exhibition about the history of the orphanage established by the countess. The other highlight of the day will be Willumsen Museum. We will visit the museum inside, which is dedicated to the artistic work of the Danish artist Jens Ferdinand Willumsen. I personally appreciate his works and I admire his multifaceted creativity. The tour will be focused on his master pieces according to the museum's disposal (the museum cooperates with many cultural institutions, therefore not always are all the works present).
The technical itinerary may undergo changes in order to improve the guided experience. In addition, specific stops at the several sites of interest (museums, shops, showrooms, galleries, churches) - where expected - are subject to availability on the day and time of the visit. The chronological order of visits may be changed even at the last moment if circumstances require it, while maintaining the contents of the program unchanged.
