The nature has an important role and it is capable of merging with human beings creating an ideal place where beauty resides. To preserve it, however, it is not enough just to look at the landscape, but we have to act to give our own positive contribution. How do new buildings are built by respecting the environment in Copenhagen? This guided tour is planned to let you discover a specific area in the city where civilisation and nature seem to work quite well or is it just fake? We will explore Ørestad city district which until fifteen years ago did not exist, at least not in the guise of today. We will see a series of residential apartment buildings, hotels, event spaces, whose sustainable features and aesthetic details drive architecture and design enthusiasts crazy. Bjarke Ingels Group, 3XN Architects, JDS Architects, Dissing + Weitling, Foster + Partners are some of the architecture studios that took care of the development of Ørestad. It is a new neighbourhood that is challenged by living up to the most central areas of Copenhagen in terms of cultural offer, events and commercial activities. Nonetheless, unlike the city center, it enjoys a unique and special company. Its closer neighbour is indeed Amager Fælled park nature reserve. 223 hectares of military zone that were transformed into a protected area, a paradise for flora and fauna. From the terraces of the iconic 8-tallet building you can see a landscape that recalls the countryside suggestions immortalised by the famous Danish painter Theodor Esbern Philipsen in the second half of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries: an extensive moorland where cows graze. Less than ten kilometers from the central train station there is space for rare species of butterflies, the western marsh harrier, the great bittern, the European penduline tit, the red-necked grebe and many other animals with curious names. Among the ears of fescue, the petals of the elegant lesser century, the dark orange fruits of sea-buckthorn and the pungent scent of wild garlic you will find yourself immersed in nature while seeing the buildings of Copenhagen on the horizon and imagining from afar the noise of the capital. This visit will offer you a total immersion in the space ruled by mother earth and at the same time will make you appreciate the most recent buildings erected according to sustainable parameters.
The technical itinerary may undergo changes in order to improve the guided experience.
